The Strange Council represents one Roman Catholic’s efforts to come to grips with the Second Vatican Council — as a Magisterial exercise, as a historical moment, and as an ongoing reality in the life of the Church. The blog’s title owes to the unique and unusual character of the Council in the history of the Church, as well as the wide range of reactions it elicited and continues to elicit to this day.

The author writes under the pseudonym “Leo.” A relatively recent convert to Catholicism from irreligion, he endeavors to bring the outsider’s dry sociological perspective to bear in confronting the Church’s ills. A lazy and undisciplined thinker by nature, this blog constitutes an effort to organize and develop his thoughts as they unfold while soliciting feedback, the better to inform both his faith and that of others.
